ترانزیستور ها یکی از قطعات الکترونيكي هستند که بعد از ساخته شدن، جهش بزرگی درعلم و تکنولوژی به وجود آوردند. ترانزیستور وظيفه تقویت سیگنال را بر عهده دارند. در مدارهاي آنالوگ ترانزیستورها در تقويت كننده هااستفاده می‌شوند. (تقویت سيگنال هايي مثل صوت يا امواج راديويي ) و نیز منابع تغذيه تثبیت‌شده خطی و غیرخطی اما در مدارهاي ديجيتال از ترانزیستورها به عنوان سوییچ (کلید) الکترونیکی استفاده میشود.
این قطعه ترانزیستور ماسفت OSG55R140 ميتواند مانند سوییچی بین حالات و انتخاب‌های مختلف ما در مدار عمل كند. همچنين می‌تواند ولتاژ و جریان سیگنالی که دریافت می‌کند را تنظیم کند.
ماسفت (MOSFET) مخفف عبارت Meta Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor است و همانطور که از نام آن مشخص است از نوع ترانزيستورهاي اثر ميدان (Field Effect Transistor = FET) مي باشد. برخلاف ترانزيستورهاي BJT که برمبناي کنترل جريان عمل مي کنند، ماسفت ها بر مبناي کنترل ولتاژ عمل مي کنند و به جاي سه پايه ي Base و Collector و Emitter داراي سه پايه ي Gate و Source و Drain مي باشند. کاربرد ماسفت به عنوان سوييچ براي استفاده از ماسفت به عنوان يک سوييچ کافي است ولتاژ gate نسبت به Source بيشتر باشد. به اين اختلاف ولتاژ VGS يعني اختلاف ولتاژ بين Gate و Source گويند. بديهي است که هرگاه پين Gate را به پين Source متصل کنيم در اين صورت VGS=0 مي گردد پس در نتيجه هيچ جرياني از Drain خارج نمي شود و سوييچ باز خواهد بود.
